Mr Richard H Owen - BSc (Eng) MSc CEng MICE MCIWEM SiLC FGS
Richard is a chartered civil engineer, with a background in geotechnical engineering, who has been working exclusively on contaminated land and brownfield development projects for over 30 years. Richard is now an independent consulting engineer (from January 2016) practising through his company Owen Geo-Environmental Ltd. From 1989 - 2015 Richard was employed by Arup in their London Office, initially as a senior consultant and from 2004 as an Associate Director and the leader of Arup's contaminated land team. Prior to joining Arup, he was a Principal with Dames & Moore (subsequently URS). Richard has provided specialist consultancy advice on numerous building, site redevelopment, infrastructure and master-planning projects, through the planning, design and construction phases. He has also undertaken many due diligence investigations for commercial and industrial properties and portfolios. He has also provided expert advice in litigation and planning inquiries. Richard drafted British Standards on ground investigation (including BS10175:2013), Highways Agency guidance and specifications on contaminated land investigation (DMRB), and Department of Environment guidance on gas protection to buildings. Richard recently chaired the BSI working group which redrafted BS8485 (Code of practice for the design of protective measures for ground gases in new building developments).
